Sunday, October 13th

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – familiar and beloved words.  Pastor Teresa will bring a message of hope from Jeremiah 29 this Sunday.  In addition to our amazing organ music brought each week by our delightful Kazuko Sacon, this Sunday, we are looking forward to Special Music brought to us by the Sakura Ensemble – Annu Shionoya (piano, organ & keyboards) and Jean Pierre Thoma (flutes and winds).

A yummy Fellowship Hour will follow the service with a time for all of us to reconnect and refresh!

SAKURA ENSEMBLE

Annu Shionoya is originally from Osaka Japan, Ms. Shionoya graduated from the Osaka School of Music, and then moved to Boston to study at the Berklee College of Music, studying with Dr. Jam Kim, Dean of Boston Conservatory of Music. Her wide range of musical activities includes a 15 year position with violinist Isidor Ostorobsky, and vocalist Asako Ebinghous, as well accompanying numerous well known East Coast soloists.  Currently “Minister of Music” at Ho’olokahi Congregational Church in Kona, Shionoya is also pianist for the Kona Music Society, and creative director of the Sakura Ensemble.

Jean Pierre Thoma is American born and world traveled. Mr. Thoma has performed on flute, saxophone, and various ethnic instruments in over 21 countries during his long musical career. Holding 2 Master’s degrees in music, he has also taught in Hawaii, San Francisco, France and Israel.  Some performance highlights have been: international touring with a Russian folk troupe; Japanese Noh drama performances; soloist with the Maui and Marin County symphonies; and a featured performer in the Panzano Italy Jazz Festival. One of his favorite musical activities is the accompaniment of whales on soprano saxophone.  His recent CD release “Spruce and Gold” features duo arrangements for flute and cello.  The Sakura Ensemble has released their new DVD of an exceptional concert in Maui at St. John’s Church.
