An Advent Prayer

Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me a holy wonder at creation.  Teach me a love so deep that it reaches past despair to peace, through gravity towards grace, beyond death to life.

Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me a hunger for peace: peace in the world, peace in my home, peace in myself.

Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me a joy in justice. Teach me to know the abundance that exists in sharing, and the community that exists in equity.

Come, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me a faith that knows rebirth.  May grief and sorrow exist only in their time, while hope covers every deep and love warms every child.

Come, long-expected Jesus.  I await your birth.  Amen.
