Jesus Shed His Blood For Me

Dear WTUC Family,

Every Sunday we gather, we proclaim the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Yet we take time once a year to focus especially on His passion - His suffering and death - and the triumphant celebration of Christ being raised from the dead. For the story of resurrection to be rich, our understanding of Christ’s passion must be deep.

As we reflect on this truth, here’s the first verse of the hymn “Jesus Shed His Blood For Me”, which is a translation of a Korean hymn using the same tune as “Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross”…

Jesus shed His blood for me, bore for our salvation,
On His cross, the agony of a lost creation.
Jesus, Lord, Jesus, Lord, for my sins they slew Thee.
Now by Thy dear blood restored, draw the sinner to Thee.

We, a part of the lost creation, led to the death of God. Yet through this death, we are restored. By His wounds we are healed, as the prophet Isaiah said. As we ponder this deep work of the cross, may we wait with great anticipation of this coming Sunday, when we celebration the victorious risen Lord.

This coming Sunday, we are going to be gathering in person on the campus of Japan Lutheran College and Seminary. We have setup at 9:30 a.m. in the cafeteria and also the hiding of eggs, followed by the kids’ Easter Egg Hunt at 10:30 a.m. Our service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in Room 105, and this service will include a baptism and communion. We will also be collecting a special Easter offering for Second Harvest Japan, which has been supported by WTUC for many years for its great service of providing food to those in need. We will provide green envelopes for this purpose in addition to the regular offering in brown envelopes. If you’re coming to the service, please also bring food and also plates and utensils!
