Preparing for Easter

Hello, WTUC Family.

I hope that you have enjoyed the warmer weather and the beautiful flying petals of the cherry blossoms around Tokyo. It is in the midst of this season that we are also preparing for Easter. There are a lot of things coming up, and we need your help. Here’s a look at what’s ahead.

Palm Sunday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m. - We will be worshiping online via Zoom. Rev. Dr. Jim Sack will be preaching as we begin Holy/Passion Week. We hope that you will join us to worship the living God. Click here for the bulletin, hymn insert, and Zoom link.

Maundy Thursday, April 17 at 6:00 p.m. - We will be having an online fellowship dinner via Zoom. Join us as we have a chance to just enjoy each other’s company while also reflecting on the last night Jesus was with His disciples before He went to the cross. You will be able to find the link on our Calendar page.

Good Friday, April 18 - There are two options where you can participate in worship on Good Friday.

  1. Mitaka Lutheran Church will be holding a bilingual service at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Japan Lutheran College and Theological Seminary. Rev. Dr. Jim Sack and Carol Sack will be joining with Rev. Dr. Toppo Takamura in this service.

  2. Tokyo Union Church will be broadcasting their Good Friday service at 7:30 p.m. online. You can also go to their campus on Omote-sando.

Find about more about each service at this link.

Easter Sunday, April 20 - We have an exciting Easter Sunday planned. Here is where we need your help! We need assistance in terms of setup, bringing food, and hiding some Easter eggs for the kids! Here is the schedule.

9:30 a.m. - Setup in the cafeteria, hiding of the eggs

10:30 a.m. - Easter Egg Hunt

11:00 a.m. - Worship Service with observation of communion and baptism

12:00 Noon - Special Potluck Lunch in the cafeteria

If you are able, please bring something to share. We would particularly ask you to bring either bread, drinks, or dessert. Please bring your own plates/forks/spoons/knives.

We would love to invite new and old friends to join us. If you know of any people who can join us, please bring them to this very special church celebration.

As we approach Holy Week and Easter Sunday, let us prayerfully prepare our hearts to celebrate our Risen Lord and Savior, seeking Him to purify our hearts and to be able to experience the vast loving grace of our great God.

Blessings,
Jonathan
