Coming Up on 40

Hello, WTUC Family.

I hope that you are doing well and that you’re getting the chance to take in the view of the cherry blossoms that are popping all over Tokyo. It’s been ridiculously cold as if it was winter, but it looks like we’re going to see a beautiful weekend ahead to check out the white and pink blossoms (along with the other spring flowers that are showing up too). It will also be great weather for you to venture over to the campus of Japan Lutheran College and Theological Seminary on Sunday, where we will be gathering for worship at 11:00 a.m. I hope that you will join us as we praise the Lord and hear His Word. We will also be observing the Lord’s Supper during the service. The title of this Sunday’s message is “I Got Nothing”. As we come up on the last week of Lent before heading into Passion/Holy Week, we are getting one more opportunity to reflect upon the life and work of Jesus Christ. I hope that this Sunday’s message will help you focus on what His work means for your life. It’s Good News, and it’s for you.

Please come join with us to worship the living God, and if you could, bring a finger food or snack to share during the fellowship hour afterward. You can learn more about the service here.

We also have plenty of things scheduled for Passion Week, beginning with Palm Sunday, April 13. Here are the list of events (which you can also see on the Calendar page):

  • Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025: Online Worship Service via Zoom at 11:00 a.m.

  • Maundy Thursday, April 17, 2025: Online Fellowship Dinner via Zoom at 6:00 p.m.

  • Good Friday, April 18, 2025: Bilingual Service at Mitaka Lutheran Church at 6:00 p.m. or Online at Tokyo Union Church at 7:30 p.m.

  • Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025: In Person Service in Room 105 of Japan Lutheran College and Theological Seminary at 11:00 a.m. (Communion, Baptism, and Special Fellowship Lunch)

We’re also planning an Easter Egg Hunt at around 10:30 a.m., and so please plan to bring the young ones along for a little fun before the service. If you would like to help out with the preparations before the service and also with the fellowship lunch afterward, please let Ann Tang, our Steering Committee member for Membership, by emailing her at membership@wtuc.net.

See you on Sunday!
Jonathan
