The Desires of Your Heart – November 28, 2021

Welcome to the West Tokyo Union Church community online worship service with one of our lay-members, Ruth Ingulsrud, bringing us the message for this First Sunday of Advent! Join us via Zoom through our usual link. We are so happy that our friends and members who hail from far and wide can be with us as we continue to worship remotely. You may be distant geographically, but you are as close as our hearts and prayers. We will keep you informed via email and updated website posts concerning which future services can be held in person.

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4) As we enter the time of Advent and look forward to Christmas, are we aware of the desires of our own hearts? What are we longing for and wishing for? Advent is a time of looking forward to the coming of the Christ Child. We make preparations as we lean into the season. With the holiday of Thanksgiving just behind us, we look forward to the season of gift-giving and love. What is our deepest heart’s desire? And where does that longing come from?

Join Ruth as we consider the “desires of the heart” and how it relates to preparing our hearts for Advent. The lectionary verses for this Sunday, which will be referenced along with Psalm 37, are as follows: Jeremiah 33:14-16, Psalm 25:1-10 and Luke 21:25-36. The hymns will be “Come Thou Long-Expected Jesus,” “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming,” and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.”

Kazuko will be playing the organ and Ruth will provide the children’s message along with some help from her puppet friends. Thank you to everyone who helps to make our worship services come together each week.

We are very thankful that our little community church can keep on going even in the midst of difficulties. Many friends keep contributing to our worship services and to our parishioner connections. We appreciate everyone’s prayers, financial support and weekly acts of service as we help each other in doing the work of the Kingdom.

Gather your family and some friends together to join us in our Zoom worship service. We hope to see many of you on Sunday! You are welcome to stay on after the service to chat for awhile and to catch up with old friends and new news.
